Encounter, 2010

A group of six juveniles from a youth custody centre meet six adult inmates serving long-term prison sentences. The experiment explores strategies of representation. It questions assigned roles in a parallel society. Heightening this sense of contrast through the use of the moving image, the audience gains an insight into individual perspectives, thanks to videos made by the participants in an encounter between different generations.

David Rych

1975, Innsbruck (Austria). Lives and works in Berlin. A continuing theme in the work of David Rych is the construction and representation of reality and identity. Many of his projects engage with matters of cultural, social and political transformation as the background to aesthetic decisions. In frequent collaboration with other artists, his practice explores different approaches in documentary film-making and compiling archives of moving images, for the most part, dealing with the documentation and reproduction of knowledge in relation to collective identities, and the visual codes of personal and official narratives of history.
