Reversed TV: A Documentary about Bassam Ramlawi, And Some of His Recent Sketches, 2010

"Here is another drawing that I scanned from the sketchbook of Bassam Ramalwi. I am not sure yet whether I should say that Bassam Ramlawi is a person whom I created in order not to be myself, or whether I should keep this not so clear. Not so clear to whom? To you, the person who is reading this? Or to myself? Or perhaps to Bassam Ramlawi?" (Mounira Al Solh)

Mounira Al Solh

1978, Beirut, Lebanon. Lives and works in Beirut and Amsterdam.
Al Solh studied painting in Beirut at the Lebanese University and Fine Arts in Amsterdam at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Her video works have been screened in several film festivals, amongst them VideoBrasil, where she won the jury's prize in 2007. In the same year, she was one of the five Lebanese artists represented in the first Lebanese Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale and she was awarded the Uriot prize at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam where she was a resident artist. Al Solh has been working on issues related to Lebanese immigrants¿ stories, as well as the Lebanese socio-political and religious conflicts. Her approach is not realistic but fictional, or even fantastic, sometimes relating to her doubts about her place in the art world. In 2008 she participated in the exhibition Be(com)ing Dutch, at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, and she launched NOA (Not Only Arabic) magazine during Home Works IV in Beirut. In 2009 she took part of the 11th Istanbul Biennial.
