Olivia Plender draws on social history using illustration, installation, performance, video and publications, addressing subjects ranging from the history of the global financial system to such religious movements as Modern Spiritualism. As an artists' project commissioned for the main catalogue of Manifesta 8, Plender has created a series of graphic illustrations charting and realigning aspects of free-market capitalism, publicity and economic reform, reinterpreted with a surreal sense of whimsy.
