Manifesta 8 opens information point in the port of Cartagena

Manifesta 8 opens information point in the port of Cartagena

The new information point, which will open its doors to the public this weekend, it is located in one of two kiosks at the Alfonso XII dock in the port of Cartagena.

The Cartagena Port Authority has agreed to reopen the blue kiosk at the docks for Manifesta. With the temporary transfer of the use of the kiosk to Manifesta 8 the Port Authority hopes to support the event and allow visitors of the port to be informed about the European Biennial taking place in Murcia and Cartagena. The Kiosk will be open for the coming three months and is being equipped to receive numerous visitors, inlcuding the cruise passengers visiting Cartagena.

The new building hosting the new information point was built during the redesign of the port in 2002. After being used as a restaurant the building has been closed of more than three years now. Like many of the other locations used for Manifesta 8, it has been reopened specifically for this event.

The opening of the new information point will coincide with the start of the the Audi MedCup, taking place from the 24th to the 29th of August including classes considered as Formula One of sailing: the TP52 and GP42.

The Port Authority has decided that the blue kiosk at the dock does not stay closed much longer. With this temporary transfer of this space to Manifesta 8, the aim is to give a greater spreading to the European Biennial, which has several of its offices in Cartagena, and to revitalize the ports esplanade. The transfer will last the three months of the Biennial and it is expected to attract numerous visitors, including the large number of cruise passengers that more and more, visit the city.

The new information point is an iron and glass structure of about 400m built during the redesigning that the port suffered in 2002 with the intention to turn the area into one of the attraction poles of entertainment of the city. After being a restaurant, the building has been closed for more than three years and, like other spaces that host Manifesta 8, it has been prepared specifically for this event.

The opening of the new information point will coincide with the start of the first activities of the Audi MedCup, which will bring to the port of the city from 24th to 29th of August the excitement of the one considered as the Formula One of sailing: the TP52 and GP42.

At the promenade where the new information point is located, the preparations for this massive sporting event are completed. The Villages installed by reason of the Audi MedCup will host activities related to the competition and it is planned that they will attract many visitors to the area.
